New! Outlander inspired Dragonfly in Amber collection!

We are delighted to unveil our new Outlander inspired Dragonfly in Amber collection! In 2020, in collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products, and arranged by licensing agent WildBrain CPLG, we launched an official Outlander line of jewellery lines, accessories and tartans. Now, Jamie and Claire’s journey continues to inspire us to create new designs that evoke their timeless love story…

As Outlander superfans, we have always been fascinated with the Dragonfly in Amber motif, something that for us, intuitively fuelled ideas for a jewellery design. It embodies Jamie and Claire’s love- a precious, timeless, mystical thing, preserved forever, as if by magic. Amber is a symbol of protection. It is considered a link to the past, the resin encapsulating a dragonfly forever within its translucent depths. Insects preserved so perfectly in fossilised resin are rare, but we wanted to create a perfect moment in time (with no harm to an actual dragonfly!) A heart shaped setting naturally lent itself to completing the essence of Jamie and Claire’s bond- a precious thing of beauty, protected evermore.

Orcadian artist Teresa Shearer designed this collectible new range in collaboration with Sony Pictures Consumer Products, and master jeweller Steven Cooper handcrafts each piece using traditional methods in our Kirkwall studio. Available in a brooch, pendant, earrings, neckwire, bangle, ring and lapel pin, the design exquisitely captures the spirit of Outlander. Cool sterling silver balances the warm hues of the amber coloured enamel. And while the design draws on ancient motifs, the elegant, contemporary setting compliments any wardrobe. We find it flatters all skins tones, and looks gorgeous whether we pair it with a little black evening outfit or jeans and sneakers.

SPOILER ALERT SEASONS 1 & 2!

In Scottish folklore, the dragonfly is a symbol of fairies and magical worlds. In some cultures, amber is associated with nuptials, so it is only appropriate that Jamie and Claire are gifted a beautiful piece of amber with a dragonfly perfectly suspended in its luminous resin as a wedding gift. When Claire goes back through the stones from 1746 to her own time to escape the inevitable Battle of Culloden, she entrusts it to Jamie as a love token and protective talisman. Later, in the 1960s, Claire spots the precious object in the Culloden museum among items found strewn on the battlefield after the Highlanders’ crushing defeat by the British, and she assumes her love perished that day. However, we have learned to never count Jamie Fraser out, haven’t we?

Not just for Outlander fans

This new collection is inspired by Outlander, but both dragonflies and amber have held significance for peoples around the globe throughout history. The dragonfly symbolises rebirth and resilience, a reminder to live life to the fullest. Amber represents courage, self-confidence and protection. Just like the warm hues of the resin itself, the energy it exudes is believed to bring light and joy into the lives of those who wear it.  Amber is also associated with Scotland, as the oldest known example of a living thing suspended in amber was discovered in Ayrshire! Together, the dragonfly and amber radiate happiness, renewal, good luck and positivity, and for thousands of years have captivated and inspired people around the world with their timeless allure.

We hope that our Dragonfly in Amber pieces bring you as much joy as they have brought us in creating them, and we’d love to see them in the wild, so be sure to tag us on social media wearing them #AuroraJewellery
